About
Carter Berry. Sustainability Strategist. Environmental Scientist. Your Impact Advisor.
I'm an environmental scientist and sustainability strategist who works at the intersection of business, nature, and community. For over a decade, I've helped organizations understand their relationships with the planet, translate environmental impacts into business strategy, and build the case for why people and nature aren't just "nice to have"—they're essential.
My Experience
Before my consulting work, I was the Environmental Impact Manager at the International Foundation for Valuing Impacts (IFVI) where I developed and deployed frameworks that quantify environmental costs in the language of currency and worked with organizations worldwide to implement them. I've worked with multinational companies, global consultants, data providers, and nonprofits to advance how we measure and act on impact analysis. I aligned our approach with leading standards like ISSB, GRI, and GHG Protocol, and collaborated with organizations like CDP, SBTi, WWF, and the US EPA.
Before IFVI, I was an academic scientist leading climate and nature research and mentoring emerging scientists. My interdisciplinary work integrated ecology, engineering, economics, and data science. With over 40 peer-reviewed publications, my research has shaped how we understand environmental impacts and sustainability.
I'm also committed to local action. I've led my city's Sustainability Advisory Committee, championed solar energy campaigns, volunteered in my community, and mentored students. While the scale of impact happens globally, each change happens locally by individuals showing up and helping out.
I hold a Ph.D. in Biology from Wake Forest University and a B.S. in Biology, B.A. in Psychology, and minor in Chemistry from UNC Chapel Hill.
